Courageous Rail Staff Member Suffers Life-Threatening Wounds During Multiple Stabbing Incident on High-Speed Service

A valiant railway employee who intervened to protect passengers during a mass stabbing attack on a high-speed train has sustained critical injuries, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Frightening Event

Surveillance footage allegedly depicts the employee trying to stop the attacker as the train traveled between a city and another station in Cambridgeshire. Bystanders described a frightening 14-minute period after the train departed Peterborough, with bloodied passengers fleeing through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, is in custody for questioning. Police declared a significant incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Emergency Reaction and Aftermath

The event on the weekend resulted in 11 people being treated in hospital after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Several people have since been discharged from medical care.

A bystander recorded the suspect brandishing a big knife and being subdued with a Taser as he faced officers on the station. He was reportedly heard shouting, "End my life, end my life."

“This terrible incident has affected many people. We are thinking of the victims and their families – especially the brave member of rail staff whose family are being supported by trained officers,” said a high-ranking police officer.

Union Response and Calls for Measures

Train associations were quick to praise employees and demand more measures. One union official said he would be “requesting immediate discussions with authorities, train companies and police to guarantee that we have the best available assistance, resources and effective procedures in operation”.

Another association representative urged the rail company and government “to move swiftly to review security, to support the impacted employees, and to make sure that no incident like this occurs again”.

Driver Praised for Quick Thinking

The train driver who halted the train at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “well”, and has been commended by union representatives for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“He did not halt the train in the center of two stops where it’s obviously difficult for the emergency services to reach, but he continued going until he got to Huntingdon, where the response was almost waiting,” explained a association official.

Additional Information

Police stated they received the initial distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the service was compelled to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

An witness recounted initially thinking if the situation was a holiday joke, but quickly understood from individuals' faces that it was real.

Authorities have confirmed there is no evidence to indicate the event was a terror-related incident and have requested the public to provide with any further information.

Rail services on the affected route are anticipated to have delays until the following day, with travelers advised to defer their travel where feasible.

Individuals with information that could help the inquiry are encouraged to contact authorities by texting a specific number with a case code.
